  • Schools visit team. Suggested Format is 30 Minutes for 3 team members
  • Introduction of Team Members
  • General introduction of self; share stories & experiences (4 mins each/ 12 minutes)
  • How do people become deaf (2 minutes)
  • Methods of communication (language and technology) (2 minutes)
  • Teach the alphabet in Australian sign language (5 minutes)
  • Ask students to fingerspell the name of their pet or favourite tv show. Questions & Answers (5 minutes)
  • Opportunity to ask questions about deafness, or share own experiences
  • Close
  • Prayer: Thank you God for bringing us together, and enabling all of us to listen to You with our hearts. Amen. Thank you for having us here today.

Catholic Ministry with Deaf and Hard of Hearing People is a ministry of the Catholic Church, that:

  • Raises awareness within the Church relating to Deafness
  • Promotes commitment by the Church to full and equal participation by people who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Provides assistance for people within the Church to recognise their gifts and talents, and access services within the Church not currently accessible
  • Provides opportunity for partnerships in the church between deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people
